Some Western developers get this idea pretty well - many BioWare games are built around the concept, for example - but, to my eyes, anyway, no-one does it quite like the Japanese. Xillia's cast is a diverse one the elderly Rowen here breaks thoroughly free of the "plucky teenager" stereotype seen in many JRPGs. They might not always see eye-to-eye and sometimes their relationships might even devolve into outright hostility depending on the direction the story goes, but they all share a connection a bond that goes far deeper than simple friendship, but which doesn't necessarily involve romantic and/or sexual love. Nakama is a Japanese term that literally means "fellow" and is often translated as "friends" or "companions." When used in reference to a narrative, it refers to the idea of true companionship a group of characters who gather together and act as what is, in effect, a substitute family for one another. But no, the most important thing for me is a very simple narrative trope known as nakama. It's something very simple, really it's nothing to do with presentation, music, or gameplay, though I will admit each of those play a part in my affection for this type of game. Or, at the very least, it understands the reason I play Japanese role-playing games, and generally find them more satisfying than their Western counterparts. Some content, such as this article, has been migrated to VG247 for posterity after USgamer's closure - but it has not been edited or further vetted by the VG247 team. But someone should probably fix DLC bugs, so other games with a similar problem don't crash. This article first appeared on USgamer, a partner publication of VG247. Note: the reason i believe this is the case, is because this is exactly why NG+ crashes happen in vesperia PS3, you need the clear achievement in vesperia, there could be a different but similar reason in xillia, but the end point is its not a bug and intended by the devs, so not a rpcs3 problem. beating the game save lets you select NG+, but you can only actually do it if you have the achievement for beating the game, trying to do so without it just crashes even on a real PS3. This is because, i think, atleast for the xillia games, NG+ flag is tied to a achievement of beating the game, and not actually having a clear save of beating the game. On a real PS3, i forget the exact conditions, but if you take a internet save and try to NG+, it crashes. What is NOT a bug however, is trying to new game plus into a crash. in both games, the crash still occurs, regardless if you have the title screen unlocked or not. Also, no, cross compatible DLC both does not crash, and the crash still occurs without any dlc from the other title.įinally, Xillia1 and 2 each have to unlock their title screen by progressing past a certain point in the game. The DLC from each game, can be used in its own game, or the other game. This applies to X1 and X2, and is almost assuradly the exact same crash, sense the games are rather unique as far as PS3 games go, because they have cross comparable DLC. none the less, 16/17 seems to be mostly golden numbers.Īlso during my tests, i tried a good variety of DLC, no specific DLC causes the crash, it really is just "to much dlc" that crashes (altho as some have more 'size' or whatever, some are more likly to cause a crash then others, but ALL off the dlc can normally be loaded) most DLC's have the same size, but some DLC's have a little bit more, letting you only install 15 DLC's before a crash. Just so confusion doesn't happen in the future, my initial analysis of 16/17 DLC's being the exact number was only mostly correct.įor whatever reason, im guessing size so i will has size in this theory, each DLC has a diffrent size, and when the size overflows it crashes.
